On 23 February 2004 the Premier Jim Bacon introduced his retirement, immediately after remaining diagnosed with lung most cancers. In his last months he opened a vigorous anti-smoking campaign which provided quite a few limits on wherever people today could smoke, which include pubs. He died 4 months afterwards.
